Biography

DEVIOUS’ third full length album “VISION” was released on August 31, 2009 by DEITY DOWN RECORDS. The album was mixed by producer JOCHEM JACOBS (TEXTURES) and produced by founding member and main song writer GUIDO DE JONGH. The release was followed by a blasting CD presentation show at a crowded ELSROCK FESTIVAL (NL), several club shows and a European tour with ENTOMBED and MERAUDER.

“They’ve created an album that just might set new standards in Death/Thrash Metal” (metalbite.com)

“…dark, heavy, crunching riffs, epic melodies and harmonies, extremely dynamic song compositions and excellent musicianship” (brutalism.com)

“VISION is one of the best death metal albums that ever emerged from Dutch soil” (lordsofmetal.nl)
DEVIOUS was founded in 2000 by GUIDO DE JONGH (guitar) and FRANK SCHILPEROORT (drums). They immediately started building up an outstanding live reputation in The Netherlands. With the release of their first full length album “ACTS OF RAGE”, by SPITZENBURG RECORDS in 2003, DEVIOUS gained a definitive spot on the Dutch Metal map.

In the following years, DEVIOUS shared stages with bands like CANNIBAL CORPSE, CRYPTOPSY, SUFFOCATION, VADER, DARKANE, CROWBAR, ABORTED, THE DILLINGER ESCAPE PLAN, GOD DETHRONED, MALEVOLENT CREATION and DYING FETUS.

In 2006 the band toured through Europe with Brazilian Death machine KRISIUN.

With the release of “DOMAIN” (DEITY DOWN RECORDS, 2007), with COEN TABAK on vocals, DEVIOUS proved to have become a top class act in the extreme metal genre. On this album, DEVIOUS combines modern death metal with the band’s original thrash roots in a unique way, keeping the emphasis on groove and variation. Besides 12 grooving death metal tracks, the album features a professionally shot video of the song “Room 302” (directed by Robin van Belzen).
“DOMAIN” was received very well by both press and metal fans.

2008 saw the return of original vocalist ARNOLD OUDE MIDDENDORP. In that same year, DEVIOUS performed on ZWARTE CROSS, one of the biggest Dutch festivals, alongside the likes of MERAUDER, EXODUS, CYNIC, MOONSPELL and OBITUARY. Late 2008, after 8 years of loyal service, bass player SVEN VAN TOORN left the band. He was replaced by DANIËL CENTIAGO.

The first half of 2009 was mostly dominated by the recording process for “VISION”, but DEVIOUS also gave some successful performances with LEGION OF THE DAMNED, ENTOMBED and MACABRE, followed by the above mentioned release and European tour with ENTOMBED and MERAUDER.
